bravo_2_zero Posted January 7, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 7, 2019 The man in the middle of this photo is Michael Berry in Vietnam , here is a little info about him: I have edited bits out not relevant that describes clothing. During Special Forces (SF) training at Ft Bragg, NC 1968-1969, while assigned to the 10th SF Group at Ft Devens, MA in 1969, and then with the 5th SF Group in Vietnam from 1969-1970, where I was an SF Medical Specialist (91B) assigned to Camp A-412 (Ba Xoai) in the Seven Mountains area on the Cambodian border, IV Corps Tactical Zone, Chau Duc Province from Dec 1969 to Sep 1970. I also served at the B Team level at Chi Lang on occasion. I arrived as a Sergeant (SGT) and was the Assistant Team Medic, later promoted to Staff Sergeant (SSG), assuming duties as the Team Senior Medic. I participated in a number of offensive combat operations, withstood a major attack by a 48-man North Vietnamese sapper battalion, and saw mortar harassing attacks on an almost daily basis. I was awarded the Combat Medical Badge (CMB), the Bronze Star (W/Oakleaf Cluster), and the Army Commendation Medal for Valor ("V" Device) for my service with the 5th SFG. This is the Real McCoy, with definitive provenance to a named Special Forces Vietnam veteran (see last photo - I'm the guy in the middle with the can of Miller). You can also check out the August 1970 issue (Vol V Number 8) of Green Beret Magazine (the issue with the SF Group Sergeant Major on the cover). There is an article (pp 6-9) on my A Team, A-421, Ba Xoai, RVN; I'm cited in this article several times (SSG Berry) and I'm in two photos on page 9 firing a 106mm recoilless rifle. One of the same pictures is featured in the Osprey Warrior series "Green Beret in Vietnam 1957-73" (ISBN 978--1-85532-568-5) on page 28, citing use of the 106mm on A-Teams, in this case my A Team, A-421.
