mds308 Posted January 7, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 7, 2019 I found a very nice pair of USCG Warrant Officer Paymaster bullion patches. Were these for shoulder boards? I was unable to find any information on the USCG Paymaster. When was this rating used? Any ideas on the time period of these patches? Thanks for the help. KurtA Posted January 7, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 7, 2019 USCG Finance/Supply Specialty. They are for the sleeve, worn just above the WO rank stripe. Based on the background color, these are pre 1972 (after which the USCG changed to the lighter blue uniform)

MastersMate Posted January 7, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 7, 2019 The CG Paymaster Warrant specialty was established in 1920. The original appointment was Acting Paymaster then Paymaster. Mid 1950s the specialty was changed to Supply Clerk and by 1968 changed again to Finance and Supply.. The insignia came in 'lefts and rights' and were worn with the stem forward.. mds308 Posted January 7, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted January 7, 2019 Thanks for the help. Any ideas as to the age of my insignia's?
MastersMate Posted January 7, 2019 Share #6 Posted January 7, 2019 1950s to 1960s.. The thick black thread, dividing the chief (top of the shield) from the pale ( bottom of the shield) was a part of the embroidery process of that time frame. Did not see shields of that quality in the new CG blue uniform of the 70s..

MastersMate Posted January 24, 2019 Share #8 Posted January 24, 2019 Hey Paul, I do believe I saw somewhere that you've gone into the Warrant to Lieutenant program.. Congrats and well done. I am winding down towards being fully retired. Wrapped up mu project of tracing the CG Enlisted and Warrant Officer family trees. A very interesting history to the backbone of the Coast Guard. Confirmed that those old CPO collar devices were in fact the first edition from 1959. Hang on to them for sure.. Back when I was attempting to irritate the liver out of some of the young' uns over at Freds Place. One petty officer had me write up a suggestion for the Uniform Board to authorize am embroidered rating rating specialty marl to be worn on the right pocket flap of the ODU and a metal pin for the tropical blue shirt. Have heard some scuttlebutt that the suggestion may have taken some root. If you hear any scuttlebutt, drop a note. Other than that maintaining an even strain.. Take care
