Broadarrowmaint Posted January 7, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 7, 2019 Hey guys, Ive got a few questions about this photograph. This is my grandpa during the Korean War in service as an officer in the army. What can you guys tell me about the insignia on his M1? Also what sweater is he wearing? And lastly what type of pants is he most likely wearing? If anyone has any insights that would be awesome!
doyler Posted January 7, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 7, 2019 Look like M43 style trousers and the sweater is the WW2 type 5 button sweater. Not uncommon to see left over WW2 items worn in Korea
edstorey Posted January 7, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 7, 2019 Judging by the way in which the sweater buttons and the M1911 holster, the photograph is reversed.
patches Posted January 7, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 7, 2019 That there on the helmet is a small decal of the 38th Infantry, the variant of it's unit crest, 2nd Infantry Division, circa 1951.
patches Posted January 7, 2019 Share #5 Posted January 7, 2019 The Tommy Gun may be one captured from the CHICOM's who in turned captured them from the Nationalist Chinese in the civil war, the weapon given to the them via lend lease in WWII.
