mds308 Posted January 5, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 5, 2019 I dug this brass number about 30 years ago. The site was in the Churchland area of Portsmouth, Virginia. This site yielded items from the late 18th century through the early 20th century including US, CS and British. The number 4 measures 1 5/8 inches (40mm) tall and 1 5/8 inches (41mm) wide. This is not thin stamped brass. I believe it was cast. There is one remaining attachment at the base and the top one was broken off. Any ideas? Could it be British? The area is now packed with townhomes.
