Inserts for Displaying Pouches?

Recommended Posts

Wondering what people use to make their pouches look full. I've seen some M1941 pack displays that look perfectly filled out. Do people just insert foam? What's the easiest and most cost effective way people go about this?

It varies, depending on what pack / pouch it is. I’ve seen collectors use anything from balled up newspaper to real period contents (socks, shirts, etc). For magazine pouches, you can use properly-dimensioned wood, cardboard, and the like. If you wanna spend a little, there are companies that make wooden ‘dummy’ magazines cut exactly like originals.

General cautionary advice you’ll get will be to use materials that won’t harm the pouch / pack fabric. If there is ever any doubt, you can wrap it in neutral muslin, which is available at most craft / sewing stores.

A GOOD, INEXPENSIVE FILLER IS THE THICK BLUE INSULATION FOAM, USED IN CONSTRUCTION. (SOMETIMES AVAILABLE AS SCRAP MATERIAL FROM NEARBY CONSTRUCTION SIGHTS). USING THESE MATERIALS, YOU CAN MAKE AN IRREGULAR SILLOUETTE AS YOUR DESIRE, USING ADDITIONAL ITEMS. GOOD LUCK, GIH
