catfish774 Posted January 2, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2019 I am fully aware of the current regulation for wearing the CIB in the uniform. But I am having trouble finding the regulations for wearing during WW2. Today it is worn above all awards, but I see WW2 soldiers with it stuck to pocket flaps of the left breast and above the ribbon racks. Some must have resources for the original regulations on how it is displayed.
Wake1941 Posted January 2, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 2, 2019 Im fairly sure it was still regulation to be worn above ribbons during ww2. But coming home Im sure guys put them below and on the pockets.
72psb Posted January 2, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 2, 2019 Most worn on the pockets were placed there because other qualification badges were there ie:jump wings w/ovals or glider wings. This is not uncommon for WW2.
Gregory Posted January 2, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 2, 2019 Many times for the US WWII era GIs the other decorations and their excess were not a blockade to attach CIB on pocket flaps.
Allan H. Posted January 2, 2019 Share #5 Posted January 2, 2019 One of the issues with the WWII CIB is that the clutch prongs were fairly short and the clutch fasteners didn't always hold very well. Sometimes, the GIs had a lot of trouble getting the CIB to stay in place when pinned through the chest. This is why you will find loads of CIBs that have had the clutch fasteners replaced with tie tack fasteners, or you will find CIBs that have had their clutch pins bent over pin back ribbon bars. It made wearing the CIB possible on some of these jackets. The pocket flap wasn't lined and padded the way the body of the uniform was, so the odds were better that the clutch fasteners would stay in place. 917601 Posted January 3, 2019 Share #6 Posted January 3, 2019 Airborne and Glider wings were more prized by recipients than CIB's.
BILL THE PATCH Posted January 3, 2019 Share #7 Posted January 3, 2019 Airborne and Glider wings were more prized by recipients than CIB's.My dad didn't, he always wanted to see his CIB didn't care about his glider wings. digi-shots Posted April 12, 2019 Share #8 Posted April 12, 2019 What was the regulation for the Combat Medic Badge.... same placement as CIB? Which was more coveted.. the Combat Medic or Glider wings? I would think Combat Medic.
