WWII & Korean Marine Grouping KIA Chosin Reservoir

Recommended Posts

Special Weapons Group.

Any idea what that means he did?

I think like the Boys Anti tank rifle or bazookaman, or mortars when I think Special Weapons.

Oh and he had 3 stars on his Asiantic Pacific Ribbon and one star on his PUC.

I sort of figured Bougainville and Okinawa. But wasn't sure on the 3rd Star.

He came to the 3rd too late for Guadalcanal, but he went where they went for the rest of the war.

found this online:

"a special weapons group, made up of one battery each of Browning machine guns, Oerlikon 20mm cannon, and Bofors 40mm cannon."

Haven't found his MOS is the muster rolls yet, but did find this :)

WOW! He was late by 1 hour & 15 minutes coming back from leave/liberty and he got a deck court and was sentenced to 10 days in the brig on "p[ss & punk" the Naval/USMC term for bread & water! That was one heck of a punishment. There must have been other stuff going on. Great group! Rest in Peace SSgt Schaffenacker.

"I have only two men out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." (Message sent by 1st Lt. Clifton B. Cates. USMC, 96th Co., Soissons, 19 July 1918 - later 19th Commandant of the Marine Corps 1948-1952)

Really cool. The whole thing. I especially like seeing his apron, but if he'd lived to be an old man, they'd have buried him in it.

Looking for the following:

452nd and 447th Bomb Group items

Anything 12th Armored- especially uniforms

155th Assault Helicopter Company, Camp Coryell, or Ban Me Thuot Vietnam items[/center]

WWII US Navy Uniforms from the Battle Off Samar: USS Johnston DD-557, USS Hoel DD-553, USS Samuel B. Roberts DE-413, USS Heermann DD-532, USS Dennis DE-405, USS John C. Butler DE-339, USS Raymond DE-341, USS Fanshaw Bay St. Lo, White Plains, Kalinin Bay, Kitkun Bay and Gambier Bay...
