Phfly1010 Posted December 22, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 22, 2018 I recently saw a photo of World War II Army Air Force pilot wearing tanker bibs. Was this common? If so, did they also wear the tanker jacket over the overalls instead of a flight jacket? Did they wear the bibs over their flight uniforms? What theater (ETO I imagine). I have a chance to buy a pair of tanker overalls for my USAAF flight uniform collection and want to make sure that it was appropriate to pair them up with flight helmets, goggles, oxygen mask, Etc. Lastly, what is an average cost for a really fine condition set of tanker bibs? Thanks for any advice.
doyler Posted December 22, 2018 Share #2 Posted December 22, 2018 You will see a few fighter pilots wearing the Winter Combat (tanker jacket) at times.the trousers may be of use as well flying at altitude in the ETo or during winter operations. ludwigh1980 Posted December 23, 2018 Share #4 Posted December 23, 2018 I know of one P-38 Lightning Pilot that wore the Tanker Overalls and jacket in the ETO (38th FS) http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/155844-50-missions-100-sortes-dfc-w-olc-am-w-3-olc/?hl=kreft&do=findComment&comment=1177048 Some photographic evidence as well.
