MMcollector Posted December 7, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2018 Picked these up last week and was about to list them when I noticed they dont say Air Crew? Anyone familiar with whats going on with these wings?
268th C.A. Posted December 7, 2018 Share #2 Posted December 7, 2018 Nice older wing, flat clutches....
tomcatter Posted December 8, 2018 Share #3 Posted December 8, 2018 All Naval "Combat Aircrew" wings I've seen so far have "Air Crew" marked on the bottom. But they clearly are Naval "Combat Aircrew" wings... Maybe a scarce variation? Interesting find!
pfrost Posted December 8, 2018 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2018 There are some other things about the wing to note. The stars seem to be stamped into the wings for example normally the stars were added into holes. Also the clutchs look to be attached by electro-soldering. Usually a sign of more modern manufacture. tomcatter Posted December 8, 2018 Share #5 Posted December 8, 2018 I may be wrong (hard to say from these photos), but it seems that pins are also a little longer than late WWII pins (WWII era pins were usually very short). Maybe a post-war wing coupled with 1940's "flat faced" clutches?
pfrost Posted December 8, 2018 Share #6 Posted December 8, 2018 Clutchs can and are frequently changed. I think you put your finger on it tommcatter
