nchistory Posted December 2, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 2, 2018 Is this a legitimate wartime manufactured WW1 USMC 2/5 painted patch?

world war I nerd Posted December 2, 2018 Share #3 Posted December 2, 2018 I see nothing fundamentally wrong with this shoulder patch, other than the faded color of the what was once yellow background.
warguy Posted December 2, 2018 Share #4 Posted December 2, 2018 I agree, too bad about the fading.
nchistory Posted December 2, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted December 2, 2018 Guess my concerns was that it appeared to have mothing only where it was folded on the inside yet not present to what is actually exposed to the outside.
nchistory Posted December 2, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted December 2, 2018 Didn't see thread hole either where removed as noted.
Allan H. Posted December 2, 2018 Share #7 Posted December 2, 2018 This is a 100% original WWI 2nd DIvision SSI. Moths do funny things, so I don't really have any heartburn with the mothing either. Allan
Schnicklfritz Posted January 4, 2019 Share #8 Posted January 4, 2019 Very nice faded 2/5 patch in the "Coblentz" German occupation style.
Eric Queen Posted January 4, 2019 Share #9 Posted January 4, 2019 I think it is an original patch but I do not think it is faded. It is exactly the same color/shade on the obverse and reverse. The only variation is the dirt/soiling around the folded edge of the observe. My guess is the patch started out as this color/shade, perhaps because that was all available at the time, the tailor didn't know/care about the correct color to be used, etc. Will probably never know.
