Identify the tanker jacket

Recommended Posts

Pretty sure all tanker jackets of that pattern were only used in WW2, plus the owner enlisted in 1942. http://wwii-enlistment.com/record/17091142/

Although it appears he was a pilot and not a tanker. "Mr. Getz was born on Dec.18, 1922 to Alexander and Catherine (Wagner) Getz in Sterling. He entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 1, 1942, during World War II and was a pilot in the Army Air Corps."

That should be enough to get you started.

Seen several 8th and 9th AF P51 and P47 pilots wear the jacket. You have to remember it wasnt a tankers jacket..its a Cold weather Combat Jacket listed as "Jacket,Combat,Winter" in the Quatermaster catalogs.

They seemed popular or issued widely to armored forces and the name tanker got attached to the item.
