husk Posted November 27, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 27, 2018 Im trying to determine the vintage of this US T-shovel. I know its pre-WWII, but not sure how far back it goes or the model/pattern. Would it use a WWI cover? TIA

sgtpeter Posted November 27, 2018 Share #7 Posted November 27, 2018 There is no agreement or clear history for this shovel, although it has been referred to as a 1905 or early 1910 shovel. Some folks believe these are post war surplus put-together shovels. Try these threads: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/305359-early-t-handle-shovel-m1910/ http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/290321-marked-wwi-era-shovel-and-cover/ http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/40896-m1905-m1910-t-handle-shovel-1905-1943/ I have a couple in my collection. WWII_GI Posted November 27, 2018 Share #8 Posted November 27, 2018 I believe these are British made, note the thin US mark similar to the stamps on the field gear. I know another member had the same style one with a British arrow proof mark. -Steven
husk Posted November 27, 2018 Author Share #9 Posted November 27, 2018 Ok, thank you for the links and the replies. This one certainly has the look and feel of a military shovel, but it sounds like the origin is still unknown.
