German Army Enlisted Man’s Dress Bayonet

This dress bayonet was a souvenir of Eugene Wilson; I believe he served in the Army in Europe during WW II. I purchased it at his auction in central Indiana about 1985.

It has a German Army officer dagger Portepee (the silver cord) elegantly woven around the scabbard. I believe the veteran added this embellishment to dress up his souvenir. The proper element worn on this type bayonet would be the Troddel, slightly different in construction and placement.

These type nickel plated bayonets were worn by enlisted soldiers for dress occasions, never intended for use in combat.

Comments Welcome, Thanks for looking!

Thanks for the comments guys. I never did buy a lot of souvenir items at auction, usually went for more that I was willing to spend. I always focused on the US things.
