Brian Keith Posted November 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2018 This dress bayonet was a souvenir of Eugene Wilson; I believe he served in the Army in Europe during WW II. I purchased it at his auction in central Indiana about 1985. It has a German Army officer dagger Portepee (the silver cord) elegantly woven around the scabbard. I believe the veteran added this embellishment to dress up his souvenir. The proper element worn on this type bayonet would be the Troddel, slightly different in construction and placement. These type nickel plated bayonets were worn by enlisted soldiers for dress occasions, never intended for use in combat. Comments Welcome, Thanks for looking! doyler Posted November 18, 2018 Share #2 Posted November 18, 2018 Nice BK The short dress bayonets seem less common....only found one or two over the years from vets.

Brian Keith Posted November 18, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted November 18, 2018 Thanks for the comments guys. I never did buy a lot of souvenir items at auction, usually went for more that I was willing to spend. I always focused on the US things.
