WW1 Jacket? Ambulance Service

I got this in a trade a couple weeks ago.

I was wondering if it was a custom, private purchase, or issued? I have never seen this style before.

Has 2 pockets and plastic? buttons.

Looks like it was converted to a shawl collar and upper pockets removed.This was sometimes done post war too.I spoke to a vet who had converted one and he wore it as a hunting jacket post war.

Just took another look. Its hard to tell now, but i can see some very faint lines where thread was for upper pockets.
