SKIPH Posted October 2, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 2, 2018 Hey Gang! Just found this new version of a very questionable M1 bayonet, for group study. Ebay item # 123401309770. Buy Now $100. This is a good one for study. Note the ad has very dark pictures, but if you click to enlarge, you will see the finer points of this "unique" version. Check it out, and see what you can figure out. Scabbard is very questionable too. Have fun! SKIP

Ray42 Posted October 2, 2018 Share #3 Posted October 2, 2018 The same seller also has another M1 bayonet similarly marked with a "13 inch" blade. Seems like the person cutting it down before it got reissued was lazy and stopped half way through getting to 10 inches.

thorin6 Posted October 2, 2018 Share #5 Posted October 2, 2018 The bomb looks like a AFH mark, but the numbers look wrong. I don't see any US bayonets with the US on the opposite side of the bomb and date. The fuller looks like it was reground given the remains of the original fuller at the point. The connection for the metal throat to the plastic body on the scabbard looks unfinished. Basically looks like a demilled bayonet and scabbard that someone put back together. US was ground off, possible reweld on the top portion of the blade. Don't know why they would put the US on the other side of the bomb.
SKIPH Posted October 3, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted October 3, 2018 This is just bad, photography even worse, wondering if it was purposely done in "dark". New collectors, study, study, study! SKIP
usmce4 Posted October 4, 2018 Share #7 Posted October 4, 2018 If you look at this dealer's past auctions, he is quite capable of taking quality pictures. You needn't be Sherlock Holmes to figure out the bayo is bad, and he knows it. Art
