MrStiv Posted October 1, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 1, 2018 Hi all, Came across this item and wasn't familiar with it. An auction listing referred to it as a "pocket hanger" that was issued to personnel who served at HQ, U.S. European Command. Does anyone have any info on how it was worn, and if any other similar ID badges were/are issued with these types of hangers/holders?
vintageproductions Posted October 1, 2018 Share #2 Posted October 1, 2018 It's a pocket hanger. Lot's of insignia from the 1960's until now are worn like this.
gwb123 Posted October 1, 2018 Share #3 Posted October 1, 2018 You literally place it over the button of your pocket and then button the flap. Very common with European armies.
roadrunner Posted October 2, 2018 Share #4 Posted October 2, 2018 Hello Here is the insignia worn without the pocket hanger. Supreme Allied Commander Europe Gen. Wesley Clark, U.S. Army, briefs reporters on the status of the NATO-led, international peacekeeping operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Pentagon on Dec. 9, 1999. The first U.S. peacekeepers entered the war-ravaged country five years ago this month in an effort to stop the ethnic killings and prevent further deterioration of the region's infrastructure. MrStiv Posted October 2, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted October 2, 2018 Thanks for the information! I find it odd that no mention is made of this type of accessory in DA 670-1, especially since using this pocket hanger would pretty much mean you couldn't wear two badges on that pocket. MrStiv Posted October 2, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted October 2, 2018 I can't seem to find a way to edit my previous reply to include this (hint: if it's possible can someone tell me how?), but anyway... One of the reasons I was confused about this item was because of this prohibition from 19-2b: Visible objects, such as clear badge holders worn on the outside of the uniform, are not authorized to aid in affixing insignia to the uniform. Now, this does raise the question of whether ID badges are considered "insignia." They are not included in Chapter 19 of DA 670-1, "Wear of Insignia and Accouterments," instead covered in the next chapter. But it does say "badge holders," and this sure likes it qualifies Also, for some reason pocket hangers seem to be closely associated with the HQ, U.S. European Command ID Badge....could that be simply because, as gwb123 mentioned, it's sort of a "European" thing? As always, I sure appreciate everyone's input!
roadrunner Posted October 2, 2018 Share #7 Posted October 2, 2018 Could it be, that the pocket hanger used with the shirt ?
