My first Vietnam Helmet:

A complete matching set, with a lot of signs of being used.

On the Suspension is "MACK" written and on the headband "Anthony J. Balvin" with his SSN.

What confuses me is, that the headband is dated 1977. The cover is 1974 dated. I can't make any date out on the neckband. It is worn off. The Liner is a Type I.

It makes me rethink that it was worn in Vietnam but on the other hand: what are the origins of the used look? Training? Exercises in Germany?

Does somebody have a clue? Or may there be a chance that it was worn in Vietnam but the parts were replaced post war?

The second picture looks like a hoist point stencil used on aircraft to identify lift points.

Chris

I know I'm a little late but I got this Korean war Navy fire helmet repainted for Vietnam with some graffiti on it I thought I would share. The front has his name and rank on it which is SSgt and Parker. The 2nd picture's symbol is unknown to me. In the 3rd picture it's hard to make out but there are 2 lightning bolts drawn on it. The other side of the helmet had some graffiti on it too but some paint got scraped off where it was.

Um..hate to tell you, but that is the band Blue Oyster Cult's symbol..and wasn't even seen until 1972..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_%C3%96yster_Cult#Band_name_and_logo

"The hook-and-cross logo was designed by Bill Gawlik[6] in January 1972,[32] and appears on all of the band's albums.[31] In Greek mythology, "... the hook-and-cross symbol is that of Kronos (Cronus), the king of the Titans and father of Zeus ... and is the alchemical symbol for lead (a heavy metal), one of the heaviest of metals."[33] Sandy Pearlman considered this, combined with the heavy and distorted guitar sound of the band and decided the description "heavy metal"[34] would be aptly applied to Blue Öyster Cult's musical sound. The hook-and-cross symbol also resembled the astrological symbol for Saturn, the Roman god of agriculture,[35] and the sickle, which is associated with both Kronos (Cronus) and Saturn (both the planet and the Roman god).[36] The logo's "... metaphysical, alchemical and mythological connotations, combined with its similarity to some religious symbols gave it a flair of decadence and mystery ..."[32] "

Maybe a post VN helmet?

The Rooster

My Vietnam lid. I purchased it as it was advertised as a Vietnam Helmet.

Its a repurposed ww2 shell and a Korean liner. And the cover has some Graffetti on it.

I would say this is a rock and roll lovers lid. And Irene… Ive enhanced the Graffetti with photoshop...

The last one on the left side, I cannot make out. Can anyone else?

I assume its another song title from the 1960';s….. ???

The Rooster

He's stating what word he sees in your post.

Well thanks for clearing that up. Not sure what Im seeing there?

Hence the question mark. Been looking for songs about tennesee from that era.

Rocky top is the only one I found but I don't see rocky top. Thats just going by the other song titles on the cover. Thinking its prob another song.

What do you think Justin?

Yea thats what I thought.

Thanks Justin. You've been helpful.

Hello,

Here are two I have. The green side cover is more interesting to me, because it has writing on it.

Thanks,

Paul

Here's a new one of mine. LTC's M1C with drawn stars likely counting jumps or helicopter assaults. Unfortunately, the helmet was not stored very well and is very rusty.
