trenchfoot Posted November 6, 2018 Author Share #135 Posted November 6, 2018 63 Recon, try using night vision to make out the name. Ive had great luck with it. If you have an old camcorder, use that, or you can download a night vision app on your phone.

Ray42 Posted November 11, 2018 Share #144 Posted November 11, 2018 This is a really gear thread and there are some really great helmets here, I recently got my first Vietnam helmet that did not end up being mixed parts. I am pretty sure I am correct with my reserch that this is the helmet of Sgt. John LeBold who was part of an Air Force combat control team. I am still trying to piece together his history but I believe that he was involved with securing airfields in Vietnam for transporting POW's released after the withdraw of U.S. forces and he was awarded the silver star for his actions during the fall of Saigon in 1975. When Tan Son Nhut Airbase was shelled on April 29th he and 2 others removed live ordinance from the runways by hand in an effort to keep the runway open and protect both people and aircraft. I especially like the jump wings painted on the front of the airborne helmet.
Ray42 Posted November 11, 2018 Share #145 Posted November 11, 2018 For some reason both the e and n in Penn. is underlined on both sides of the helmet, and his name is on the rear. Also included is a picture of him I found, notice the jump wings on his berret which strengthens my beleif that this was his helmet.
