Edelweisse Posted September 19, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 19, 2018 Hi: I recently attended an estate sale of a retired US Army SGM Vietnam vet and found this US Navy foul weather deck parka. There are some ink markings on the lower tail of the jacket. I can make out "Medium"...and "12L-L420". I'd like to know what year these were issued/worn. Can you assist? Thanks,
Edelweisse Posted September 19, 2018 Author Share #2 Posted September 19, 2018 It was out in a garage and had an odor ..so I elected to soak it in some soap and water and removed a lot of dirt & odor. I was also able to make out a little more...I think (smile). I just looked at the "clean" jcket and found "Medium FSN 8405-171-1420" and large "-23-" under that...but I can see a maker's mark/ink stamp...but can't make it out. So the jacket is Vietnam war period. maker's stamp?
helpimarock Posted September 21, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 21, 2018 This is the U.S. Army version you can tell from the front pockets and the peak on the hood
Brian Dentino Posted September 21, 2018 Share #4 Posted September 21, 2018 The Navy one would also have a U.S.N. stamped on the chest pretty clear as well.
Edelweisse Posted September 24, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted September 24, 2018 WOW....I didn't know that there were different type (US Army vs. USN)...but it does make sense...since many US Navy items are marked "USN". Thank you...
