mslurvey Posted September 15, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2018 Treadhead (thanks) sent me the copy of the KATUSA drawing from the July-Sep issue of the ASMIC trading post a year ago and I just picked up an original badge from the Bay. Below you will find the story of the KATUSA service badge that I found online at https://newsok.com/gallery/6028542/pictures/2009881. The website als has several great 45th ID pictures and stories from the 1950's and 1960"s. 45TH INFANTRY / 45TH DIVISION / MILITARY / DEFENSE / SOLDIERS / KATUSA / BADGE: "Katusa's of the 45th Division now have a distinctive service badge of their own, designed and prepared by the Thunderbirds for presentation to Korean troops who served with the division during combat. Maj. Gen P.D. Ginder, 45th Division commander, fostered the idea, hoping to make the Korean troops, detached from their own army, feel themselves a more integral part of the division. He wanted to express, in the form of an award, the division's appreciation for their efforts while serving with the Thunderbirds. What originally started out to be a regimental crest ended in the present form of a service badge, moulding the best ideas of the artists and draftsmen assigned the project." Photographer and original date unknown. Entered the library 02/11/1954.

Could I get a moderator to fix the link in my post by changing it out for the correct link that aznation posted? Thanks Mason
