Steindaddie Posted September 15, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2018 Nice old L-1B flightsuit that belonged to then 1st Lt. Clayton Snow of the 85th FIS. The ballcap shows he later made captain. Snow was assigned to the 85th from May 1954-? (They deactivated in '59). There is also an Air Defense Command "Skilled" patch, and my question is when did those patches become authorized? Obviously, Snow made captain before 1959 and his 1st Lt. flightsuit is older than that.
Randy Posted September 15, 2018 Share #2 Posted September 15, 2018 I've seen them in other late 50s pics, so yours is fine. The first ones were 4.75" tall (attached), but they quickly went to the smaller ones like yours. Randy
Randy Posted September 16, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 16, 2018 I went digging thru my files, and found this as well. 85 FIS, dated 1958. At least one ADC rating patch is seen. Maybe your guy is in the pic. Randy
Steindaddie Posted September 16, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted September 16, 2018 Randy, Great photo, and I'm glad you shared. Nice to see "my" baseball cap on the pilots heads. Thanks for the ADC info; I too have that older patch but did not know it was the original version. I assumed it was simply a later variation - a much later variation in fact. Thanks! ~Bill
