Camouflaged M1 with Inland Jump Liner

Here is a recent addition to the collection!

This helmet set and small group recently surfaced as a local find in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

The McCord Fixed bail helmet, a wonderful light green ad hoc splotch camouflage is salty and well worn. The camouflage paint covers roughly 80% of the helmets surface and is in great shape with vibrant colors. The helmet is virtually untouched! Much of the tan color seen is dust and dirt and is not actually paint! Lot nunmber is 142A with raised brass buckle - mid-1942.

The liner, an early Inland Paratrooper Liner "1 over Inland" with a 5-Hole chin cup (without the chamois liner). One A-Yoke is partially torn (not cut), and it is hard to determine the cause. The brass United Carr leather buckle does appear original to the liner.

The helmet and liner match well and clear to have been together for a very long time. Neither are marked with a name or laundry number, so it is difficult to say with 100% certainty that it is a true set - but I think without a doubt they are.

The patch and jump wings also accompany the helmet. The Parachute Wings marked 'Gemsco Sterling' have been affixed with a gold campaign star and are absolutely beautiful.

Though it is impossible to determine without a name or ID, similar camouflage patterns have been attributed to the 507th PIR or 504th PIR, 82nd Airborne Division.
