3rd up, is an RAF D helmet used by an American P-40 pilot flying with the 79th Fighter Group in North Africa. Interesting to see that he held in his US receivers with pieces of orange plexiglass and for some reason taped the left inner ear doughnut with some kind of masking tape. The Mk VIII goggles and US A-10 O mask were his.

Love the Type D from the 79th. That seems to be the norm for that group with the plexiglass circle to hold in the US receivers. Saw a Type C connected to a 79th pilot sell on eBay recently with the same circles

Great information about the plexiglass circles and the 79th! Did not realize that. Must have had the same "rigger" installing these on some of the helmets. Thanks!

Here is the C helmet that was on Ebay recently from the 79th Fighter group. The guy was in the 86th Fighter Squadron. It also has the same plastic covering on the receivers.
I was lucky enough to get it.

Very cool, Scarecrow! I also saw one with the same coverings from a guy in the 85th Squadron. It must have been a normal practice in the group.

Here is an interesting A-11, it is part of a grouping that belonged to a member of the 39th Photo Recon squadron (if I remember correctly) of the 12th Air Force.

Thanks, Scarecrow! I am glad you like the A-13.
JDK, thanks for the comment! Feel free to share if you like!

It seems that the plastic coverings on C and D helmets was common in the 79th FG. Here are other pilots of the 86th FS, you can see they have the plastic coverings and also the white thread on their earcups.

Here is a B6 helmet with sponge rubber earcups. B6 helmets with the sponge rubber cups are commonly seen on bomber crewmen around mid 1943 to mid 1944 but are very hard to find surviving examples of.

Here are pictures of sponge rubber B6's helmets in use by a radio operator and tail gunner on a B-17.
