WorldWarPatches Posted September 11, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 11, 2018 I've looked at 100's and can not find one with same characters. Anyone know for sure? Flag is silk. 7-3/4" wide X 10" height. https://www.ebay.com/str/worldwarpatches If you can't stand behind our troops stand in front of them! https://www.worldwarpatches.com
Owen Posted September 11, 2018 Share #2 Posted September 11, 2018 Looks to me like one made for the tourist trade........
WorldWarPatches Posted September 11, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted September 11, 2018 I don't think so Owen, it came with a bunch of originals. If so it was 40's made. https://www.ebay.com/str/worldwarpatches If you can't stand behind our troops stand in front of them! https://www.worldwarpatches.com
Eric Queen Posted September 11, 2018 Share #4 Posted September 11, 2018 I think it could be from the period but it sure does not look like it was done by anyone with a knowledge of kanji. It reminds me of the those Japanese flags and Chinese chits painted up by seabee's and other US personnel to sell as souvenirs, trade for cigarettes, etc. Some did better than others at copying the characters from original pieces. Owen Posted September 15, 2018 Share #5 Posted September 15, 2018 O agree with Eric. It may be 40s, but I believe it was made as a souvenir for troops deployed post WWII. This was quite common back in the day. A whole industry built up around it. v/r, Owen
Bob Hudson Posted September 15, 2018 Share #6 Posted September 15, 2018 The seabees operated fake flag factories: Here's an old forum thread about this topic: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/126084-fake-japanese-flags/
