Jennings Lane Posted September 7, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2018 Powder horn with eagle and more design dated 1821. Thoughts? I friend of mine recently purchased this powder horn. It is dated 1821. Beautifully engraved with a variety of figures. Everything in the lot was mid-19th century or earlier. It looks old and authentic to me. Appears to have been shellacked at some point. Any thoughts or information is appreciated.

USARV72 Posted September 7, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 7, 2018 Looks good.Actually having it in hand is better. Detail and aging look real. Had quite a few years ago, another interest.
Jennings Lane Posted September 9, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted September 9, 2018 Looks good.Actually having it in hand is better. Detail and aging look real. Had quite a few years ago, another interest. Thanks. Providing it's original, any thoughts as to a realistic value of horns of this age and style? Prices seem to vary greatly on the internet. USARV72 Posted September 9, 2018 Share #5 Posted September 9, 2018 Value is what someone is willing to pay. Again, without having in hand is difficult to place value. What are similar ones online valued?
Jennings Lane Posted September 10, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted September 10, 2018 Value is what someone is willing to pay. Again, without having in hand is difficult to place value. What are similar ones online valued? You see similar horns on the internet priced from $1,000-$3,000+. Some are much higher but often named or attributed to owners or makers. Even some of the modern horns I see at the Friendship, Indiana show are expensive. Thanks again for your help. Always appreciated.
