I picked this up recently and I love the history behind it. All I have researched thus far is his obituary. My first POW tag.Posted ImagePosted Image

Member of the catapiller club, so he bailed out of an aircraft at some time during his service. He may come up on a MACR form somewhere.

he is listed in two different MACR's

It appears as though there are several page mix ups....there is one page in about a 15 page report that obviously doesnt go there

Then he is mentioned in a report for a P-47 but yet several pages later he is mentioned with 6 crew members.

There is mention on the German papers that it was a Marauder so B-26 perhaps?

I cannot find anything for sure on group or squad

someone made this note on MACR 11593 that I just happened to see

This should be entered under MACR 11593 17th Bomb Group 37th Bomb Squadron B-26 42-107563 24 December 1944

How's that for a Christmas present? Five months in a Stalag.

Allan

But what pedigree!

To say you were in Stalag Luft 3 Sagan-Silesia Bavaria (before being moved to Nuremberg Langwasser.

Sad that his memories have passed with him.
