Bob Hudson Posted February 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2007 I saw this one today on the shoulder of an IKE jacket in an antique store. The jacket also had a VFW patch on the other shoulder so this was not an active duty uniform. What drives me crazy is that I think I ID'ed this for someone else last year and now I can't remember what it is.
collectsmedals Posted February 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2007 This is an American Naval Amphibious forces shoulder insignia that was based on a variation of a British insignia. The badge was approved by the Secretary of the Navy in BUPERS Circ LTR-44 on June 15th 1944. It was worn at the top of the left arm only. The authorisation to wear the insignia terminated with the individuals detachment from the Amphibious Forces. The same patch with a blue background was for Army Amphibious forces. Thanks so much: was this only issued from 1944-47?
dpcsdan Posted March 26, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 26, 2007 Thanks so much: was this only issued from 1944-47? Approved on 15 June 1944. All unit shoulder patches were abolished for the U.S. Navy on 17 January 1947. -source U.S. Navy Rating Badges, Speciality Marks and Distinguishing Marks (1885-1982), by John A.
