U.S. Socket Bayonet Markings? XII

Recommended Posts

Hello

What do these markings mean on this bayonet?

I take it its a 1855 model?

Penny passes easily and its about 18 inches long

But I can not figure out the markings? ( inspection)

Thank you

Tony

I believe this may be the soldiers rack & stack number, he was #12 in the platoon, so all his gear would be marked the same way. I have a 1851 belt plate if I remember right it has a number like yours only XV11. yours resembles a 45.70 bayonet too me. I always at a show know a nickle will drop through a .58 cal but not a 45.70. as a quick test... :)
