newcollect Posted August 27, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 27, 2018 Hi Guys, any thoughts on this type of helmet? It is a swivel bail and therefore unsure how to date it or whether it looks legit. All opinions appreciated. THANKS!

stealthytyler Posted August 27, 2018 Share #10 Posted August 27, 2018 Not being into Army stuff, the Arch makes me think Navy Definitely not Navy. If legit, then its likely Army. If legit, then it is likely used in Normandy during D-Day. If used in Normandy on D-Day, then its likely to prove that swivel bails were used during the initial landings. All that being said, it is quite a stretch. I am not sure that it lines up with the painting scheme protocol of 5th and 6th ESB units during D-Day June 6 1944. I lean on the side of it being fake markings. My opinion of course and would love to hear others opinions. Thanks for sharing!!!
P-59A Posted August 27, 2018 Share #11 Posted August 27, 2018 The Army also made landings in the Pacific. Everyone forgets this.
pararaftanr2 Posted August 27, 2018 Share #12 Posted August 27, 2018 True, but this style of marking is attributed to the Engineer Special Brigades and Normandy landings, not the PTO. Not authentic, in my opinion and doesn't match the very few original examples that have survived or vintage photos that have been published. doyler Posted August 27, 2018 Share #13 Posted August 27, 2018 Not a fan of the marking. Looks like it was added over a base of older (and darker paint for one thing)
644td Posted August 28, 2018 Share #14 Posted August 28, 2018 Can you get a front on picture of the marking and any clear close ups of the markings. Marty
doyler Posted August 28, 2018 Share #15 Posted August 28, 2018 ..and the Swivel bales are always a point of contention for "Normandy" helmets
VenitHora Posted August 28, 2018 Share #16 Posted August 28, 2018 One helmet not to get involved with.
