JAD57 Posted August 24, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 24, 2018 Hi, I was wondering if I could get some information on what era these field glasses might be from? Not sure if they are from the Civil War era or a bit latter? They are marked A.Bardou and US Navy in script. Any information would be appreciated. suwanneetrader Posted August 24, 2018 Share #2 Posted August 24, 2018 I can not tell if yours are leather covered or see what markings, if any are on the tubes. Here is a CW example I've had for 40-50 years. They belonged to Capt Horace Baxter of Mass Cav. He fought at Chancellorsville and wounded at Gettysburg. He was from Marlboro. They are marked U.S. Signal Service, that marking is 1862 or earlier as this Services name was changed to U.S. Signal Corps in1862. The poor condition case is mostly leather covered cardboard. JAD57 Posted August 24, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted August 24, 2018 Hi Richard, Thanks for the reply, The leather covering is only on the body, the sliding shield cover are blackened brass. No other markings anywhere else other than makers name on the eye sockets and US Navy in script on the bridge bar. Really like the History with your field glasses, thanks for sharing, Jeff
