BEAST Posted August 22, 2018 #1 Posted August 22, 2018 These were sold on Ebay and I was not the winner. I hadn't seen this design before, were they made in the Philippines?
tredhed2 Posted August 23, 2018 #2 Posted August 23, 2018 You are partially right in that this is an unusual DI. Whenever you see a border on a DI, it usually means that a unit descended from another unit. In this case, the motto lends a clue. A similar DI, but w/ gold border (this looks gray on my computer) and diff shape to motto and to scroll, is listed in Sawicki's book FA Bns of the US Army Vol 2. This is the 524th FA Bn as a 1946 redesignation. It was consolidated w/ the 150th Arty in 1959. The WW II 150th FA BN DIs did not have mottos. The DIs depicted are US made.

For WWII, I was used to seeing the standard 150th FA DUI, but recently I have been seeing more Philippine period made insignia for the 38th Infantry Division being sold on EBay. I thought maybe I missed a theater made variant. I tried to do a Google search on the motto and 150th FA, but struck out. I appreciate your help!
tredhed2 Posted August 23, 2018 #4 Posted August 23, 2018 You are most welcome. I find the ASMIC Motto list helpful. Here are examples of a PM DI for both the 38th and 86th IDs. You also want to watch for PM DIs on coconuts; designs are painted.
BEAST Posted August 26, 2018 Author #5 Posted August 26, 2018 Thanks for the information. I picked up an unpainted (or paint wore off) version of the 38th ID DI that youve shown here. Unfortunately Ive missed a set of the PI made Avenger DIs recently. Theyre on my ASMIC convention wishlist.
