AAF/MTO and MAAF Patches WWII What?

I think MTO is Mediterranean Theater (Which makes sense as he served in N. Africa and Italy I got ID'ed Ike which has the Metallic Embroidery patch. I also also have his Gas Flap wool shirt. Both from his 70 year Nephew.). The shirt just has a Embroidery MAAF patch.

 

I'm just trying to get alittle more info as I've never seen these patches. Richard
