dc9 Posted August 19, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2018 Hello All, I know these seem like vain asks. I am casually trying to assemble WWI thru WWII Oaks and higher ranks from as many makers as can be identified. I am in the process of labeling them so I can keep everything sorted. If you have any thoughts as to the makers and can confirm the era, it would be greatly appreciated. If someone has already done the work of charting out the makers by the design of the oak leaf (or eagles, stars, etc.) and could point me to that research, that would be awesome. Thank you, Eric
dc9 Posted August 19, 2018 Author Share #2 Posted August 19, 2018 #1) I assume this one is U.S. made. Note the hardware is mounted "upside down" - catch is at the top, hinge at bottom: :

dc9 Posted August 19, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted August 19, 2018 #3) Does the open catch suggest this one is foreign made?

KurtA Posted August 19, 2018 Share #6 Posted August 19, 2018 All are US made. #3 and #4 are pre WW2. (not sure how "pre", but I think post WW1) Can't help on makers. You'll need to find boxed/carded examples in order to determine that. #'s 1 and 2 are probably 1940's era (because of the pin back and no hallmark). Tough to really nail that down for this WW2 and later design. Would need to find them on uniforms to get a better sense of era.
