I thought I would share this flying helmet. The man it belonged to joined the Navy before Pearl Harbor and flew with Fighting Squadron 17 in 1945.

Marvellous helmet.

Just a note - if I recall correct, VF-17 ended its first war tour (flying Corsairs) in late springtime 1944 and got equipped with Hellcats aboard the Hornet carrier. So, photo must be from 1944 (if that is a VF-17 pilot) or, if really from 1945 he should be a VF-84 Corsair pilot.

Thank you all for the comments.

Thanks for the info BlueBookGuy. Men from VF-17's combat time in the Solomons became the nucleus for VF-84. VF-17 was reformed, flying off the Hornet and came back to the US in July 1945 when it was reformed a third time with new members in August 1945.

Jerry, the helmet has one snap on each side of the helmet.

Thanks Jon for info. Im curiosity about a snaps. They are not for A-14 mask, probably for a lip microphone only...

Congrats again this helmet have a character!
