SgtMaddoxUSMC Posted September 30, 2019 #117 Posted September 30, 2019 More U.S. Marines on the Michigan. The hand written caption for this photo reads as follows: "This is the Marine Guard on board the U.S.S. Michigan. This picture was taken about an hour before we landed at Vera Cruz. This was taken on April 22, 1914." Can you get a close-up of the ranks on the Marine squatting on the far right?
world war I nerd Posted October 1, 2019 Author #118 Posted October 1, 2019 These look a little better, but there's not much detail in the enlargement of the chevrons
world war I nerd Posted October 1, 2019 Author #119 Posted October 1, 2019 One more of the chevron on the right.
SgtMaddoxUSMC Posted October 1, 2019 #120 Posted October 1, 2019 Interesting Sergeant stripes.. haven't seen ones like that before
world war I nerd Posted October 11, 2019 Author #122 Posted October 11, 2019 Thanks to all for looking, appreciating and commenting ... Home front photo of Lillian Russell doing her best to help with Marine Corps recruitment during the Great War. This image was taken in Buffalo new York, I think, during the 4th Liberty Loan drive, which took place on September 28, 1918.
world war I nerd Posted October 11, 2019 Author #123 Posted October 11, 2019 Close up of Ms, Russell's most singular USMC dress blue coat and tropical helmet. By the way, the hand written caption for this photo is: "Lillian Russell recruiting for Marines".
world war I nerd Posted October 11, 2019 Author #124 Posted October 11, 2019 And, a better look at the very capable boys in blue assisting Ms. Russel.
world war I nerd Posted October 11, 2019 Author #125 Posted October 11, 2019 Another shot from Buffalo, New York's 4th Liberty Loan drive. This one of U.S. Marines and decorated French Alpine Troops, whose collective nom-de-guerre was the "Blue Devils".
