Brig Posted August 5, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2018 After having a full-blown Ancestry account for 10 years for military research, I finally broke down and decided to start researching my own family tree. Holy crap, it's like an addictive game of connect the dots and rather a fun puzzle, especially when you go down the rabbit hole into distant connections. Anyway, stumbled upon a connection (through grandmother's second marriage) who was in the AAF during WWII and evidently stuck around in the Air Force, then became a reverend after the war. Interestingly, his military portrait depicts a chaplain's cross pinned over his wings. Was this a common practice? Might be what has led to all the so-called 'chaplain wings' we've seen over the years...
Brig Posted August 5, 2018 Author Share #2 Posted August 5, 2018 Looking up pictures of AF chaplains, I see this is still a common practice.
