I got a Kelly for cheap a while ago and was wondering if they would be considered rare or what not, I haven't seen many and know they had a pretty limited production time. Any opinions would be great, thanks as always!

I have noticed an increase in value within the past 5 years. Good ones used to be had for around $50-$75, now they rarely seem to sell for less than $125. Ones with original camouflage or names is a whole different story. I can't speak for everyone, but I personally like the ones actually manufactured by McCord in 1941 as opposed to refurbished British and American WWI shells.

Alright. That's similar to FS FB shells I've seen too, and that's been the past year. Price wise I mean. Last year I picked one up with broken bails and probably 9 coats of paint for 65 dollars. Now I can't find one on eBay for less than 100.

Enough off topic now but what would you say for this Kelly price wise? (Its a McCord made.)Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

They're not especially rare, but they seem to be pretty overlooked by collectors. There are a lot of interesting variations in the 1934-40 types, before McCord started reproducing the m1917.

Really? I'm not too knowledgeable on pre-WW2 shells. Thanks for that tid bit!

I bought what was sold as a M1917A1 for around $40. No liner or bails but in excellent condition. The problem? The stamped markings are completely unknown to me. Granted I am a major novice when it comes to helmets. Any idea what I have?post-161252-0-35577800-1537686278_thumb.jpgpost-161252-0-84395300-1537686634.jpgpost-161252-0-49516200-1537686679.jpg

Im thinking thats a British helmet, not a M1917A1.

IMHO Kelly helmets are really overlooked - while the M1 became a separate collecting branch, M17A1 was like this retarded brother that no one cared for. Nowadays I am trying to pick them up whenever I can - they are truly interesting and look nice on some early war uniforms. Also the ones in pristine condition are much harder to come by than M1

here is one to a GI who enlisted on Dec 7th 1941, probably in the fever of patriotic rush after hearing about Pearl Harbor. I wonder if He was sorry the next day.. saying "dang i was drunk ... " ;)
