prestoncohunter Posted July 24, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 24, 2018 I finally got around to putting together a display of my small "collection". No real direction to the collection except everything displayed came from my wife's family either her Dad or his brothers or an uncle on her Mother's side. The only exception to that is the mattock cover which I got from a member here. The branches of service were pretty well split between Navy and Army, her Dad's side had two in Navy and 2 in Army, her Mother's side had 1 Army, 1 Navy and 1 Merchant Marine. We have pictures of most of the uncles in uniform so the plan is to frame them and display as well as well as a couple hats. First overview. huntssurplus Posted July 24, 2018 Share #5 Posted July 24, 2018 Really nice little collection, love how everything is from your wife's family, it's always better when you can put a name to an item, and better when it's from a family member! Thanks for sharing, Hunt
prestoncohunter Posted July 24, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted July 24, 2018 I do realize that the goggles wouldn't be on that liner but it displayed well that way. The goggles belonged to my FILs twin who was on the escort carrier Croatan.
IrishRebel77 Posted August 3, 2018 Share #7 Posted August 3, 2018 Nice collection bud? not to busy and belonged to Family members. Top notch. I have a small collection of stuff from my Grandfather who fought in Italy. I'm sure you well aware ,but those ribbons and insignia would look great in a frame. Thanks again for sharing
JasonT Posted August 4, 2018 Share #8 Posted August 4, 2018 Great collection and thank you for sharing! Having their photos framed and included would really add to the display. You are lucky to have so many items come from your extended family.
alloutww2 Posted August 8, 2018 Share #9 Posted August 8, 2018 I really wish I had family that could have brought so many items back, my grandfather was in the navy, but from what I understand he never saw combat.
sundance Posted August 8, 2018 Share #10 Posted August 8, 2018 Very nice collection and it's great to know where it all came from.
prestoncohunter Posted August 21, 2018 Author Share #11 Posted August 21, 2018 Have added a little more. Used wig stands to put the hats. The two Navy were my FILs and the garrison with MP piping was my wife's uncle. The flag is my FILs and as soon as we confirm what CB group he was with we will put it in a display case. The patches we don't have much history on other than all appear WW2 and were in an uncles footlocker. A couple are soiled some like they came from a uniform a couple don't appear to have ever been sewn on. The sweetheart hankies were given to my FILs nieces when he shipped out, they would have been 8 and 10 years old at the time.
BeckettM101 Posted May 16, 2019 Share #12 Posted May 16, 2019 Nice display. Being a 14yo, I can't have a war room, so I took over the 2 cabinets in the corner of my dining room. I saw how you also have a Red Cross ditty bag. What Red Cross chapter is yours from. Mine is from the St. Louis chapter.
prestoncohunter Posted May 20, 2019 Author Share #13 Posted May 20, 2019 Sorry I didn't get back sooner. The dirty bag is from Milwaukee
manayunkman Posted May 20, 2019 Share #14 Posted May 20, 2019 So how did you get into collecting and how did this all come about, besides marrying into it? And to collect from your own family exclusively is an interesting concept. Easy on the wallet.
prestoncohunter Posted May 20, 2019 Author Share #15 Posted May 20, 2019 I always have enjoyed history but never thought about collecting. When my FIL passed away we found all this in the attic and that got me started. We had no idea was up there.
