Ilin1979 Posted July 19, 2018 Author #8 Posted July 19, 2018 Maybe I shouldn't have ordered the asmic catalogs, I can just ask people on this forum and get all the answers. Just kidding lol
Rakkasan187 Posted July 19, 2018 #9 Posted July 19, 2018 Ilin1979, You won't be disappointed with the purchase of the ASMIC catalogs. It is a worthy investment if you intend on collecting Distinctive Unit Insignia.. I need to update my catalogs, but the older ones even in black and white can be very useful. You may also try to find Barry Jason Stein's US Army Heraldic Crests, A Complete Illustrated History of Authorized Distinctive Unit Insignia This book is out of print now and is a little out dated due to so many new unit crests, but this is also a decent supplement to the ASMIC catalogs to cross reference some of the crests. This book also provides some lineage history and campaign credit for each of the crests. There are several thousand color pictures of the crests within this book... Leigh

Leigh I just received a copy of Stein's book. I bought if off of Amazon for $86 (used in great condition). Per your comment above I could not find images of some of the WW2 era DUI's that I have in my possession in the Stein book. However, I am not disappointed in the purchase.
Rakkasan187 Posted July 19, 2018 #11 Posted July 19, 2018 Hookemhorns88, Yes the Stein book is dated and when it was published only Authorized insignia were included,, so that left out many of the WW2 era and later unit crests. before I found ASMIC and the catalogs this book was all I had to go with and I too could not find several of the crests I had in my collection until I was able to get copies of the catalogs.. That is also a fair price for the Stein book. They used to sell them in the Base PX (Clothing and Sales) here at Fort Bliss, Texas back in the 90's. I was able to pick up 2 copies as they were flying off the shelves. The next time I saw a copy on a military base was in 2002-2003 when I was on my way to an ASMIC convention in Denver at the Clothing Sales shop at the Air Force Academy... If you don't have the ASMIC catalogs and need some assistance in identifying some of your unit crests, please don't hesitate to post them here or contact me via PM.. I will be more than happy to help you identify your crests.. Leigh (Fellow Texan)...
Ilin1979 Posted July 19, 2018 Author #12 Posted July 19, 2018 I have some asmic catalogs right now and just sent a check for the rest of them that they have on the order form. As for the book,I got lucky on Ebay and it cost me about $10.
