Convalescent bag

Hopefully this is the right place to put this.

 

Can anyone tell me what and how these were used for? My wife's uncle was an Army Medic in WW2 and it was in his things. Looks like brand new. The tag shows it was made/given by the Milwaukee Red Cross.

 

Thanks in advance for any and all info.

This is commonly called a "Ditty Bag" presented by the Red Cross, and used to hold shaving gear and assorted small items. I have found these containing small military insignia, etc. brought back from the war among larger Vet groupings. Not rare. Jack

Didn't figure it was rare, just wasn't sure what it's use was. Thanks for the info.

that's right Ditty bag.

The straps tied around your waist so that you didn't have to set your toilet articles on the ground
