king802 Posted July 17, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 17, 2018 This helmet came out of an old collection in Normandy and was found in the Falaise area where the 3rd Armored Division closed the gap. Fixed loop shell with a Capac liner. The shell has the remains of a 1st Lt Bar and appears to have been painted over the top of where a decal once was - you can see varnish marks around it. The liner has the remains of a 2nd Lt Bar and an Armored Division decal, again applied with glue and varnished. The liner has seen damage from the elements and rodents by the looks of it. king802 Posted July 18, 2018 Author Share #17 Posted July 18, 2018 I don’t normally go for relic or semi relic helmets but this one isn’t too bad and has character, the remains of the decals are interesting. Rich
Simon Lerenfort Posted July 18, 2018 Share #18 Posted July 18, 2018 Pity the original owner did not add his name or a laundry mark to it. Nice find.

1canpara Posted July 19, 2018 Share #21 Posted July 19, 2018 Great helmet, who said you cant pickup barn found helmets anymore! Great helmet Rich, and not to hijack the thread, but heres a similar helmet I picked up a few years ago in Belgium between the towns of Bovigny and Salmchateau. I got it from a fellow who found it in a barn, really, in fact you can see that it was once used as a feed scoop. The rear of the helmet is badly damaged where a handle and pole were attached. It looks like someone tried to repair it for some reason at some point. The armoured triangle is cut into the paint, I just made a 3rd decal out of paper and gently tacked it on with some removable rubber cement. It was definitely there, and now its here, in my war room and displays quite nicely with a couple of other relic helmets I have from that area. huntssurplus Posted July 24, 2018 Share #25 Posted July 24, 2018 WOW, great helmets! Love these relic helmets. Especially since they have decals makes you think how many helmets actually had decals during WW2. Hunt
