36thIDAlex Posted July 15, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 15, 2018 Alright so there is only one other forum post on this style of hat and the forum members were split between it being civilian or a PP Korean War item. Well according to IMA it is private purchase British variant of the B2 Winter Flying Cap. I would like to hear everyone’s thoughts on this or if anyone knows of any photographic evidence of this cap. The reason I ask is that a local antique store has this exact hat priced very low (comparatively) with some other military items. I didn’t pick it up because it seemed close but too unfamiliar for me. I’ve known IMA as a reputable source of authentic militaria, albeit very pricey, but would like to hear from the forum members. https://www.ima-usa.com/products/original-u-s-wwii-usaaf-british-made-b-2-style-winter-flying-cap
hbtcoveralls Posted July 17, 2018 Share #2 Posted July 17, 2018 Civilian, no military connection as far as I'm concerned. I've never seen any air crews or ground crews with this type of hat and have owned several B-2s If IMA is selling this I'd be doubly concerned as they have no reputation for veracity when it comes to their "rare" "original" items Tom Bowers

I am not well versed in my flight gear yet so I just wanted to double check before I bought anything, and I am glad I did. I appreciate the help and from now on will no longer be trusting the so-called "professionals" over at IMA.
doyler Posted July 17, 2018 Share #4 Posted July 17, 2018 Seems IMA has had a lot of questionable items or "inhanced" with a story or added items.I don't go there often but saw a couple groups there that looked a bit funny and didn't they also have all those named officers caps to high ranking WW2 well know officers? The ones with the embossed names? Im thinking they buy collections or have gotten into the "named" stuff and either don't really research it or have a clue what is real or not real.Often buying collections there is good and bad.
