Hi Rene, pleased that you like matchbooks, here's a wartime match holder from my shoebox, I don't think theres been one posted so far. The top cover is torn away and the matches slid into the opened case, the striker is left exposed and the lid opened to pull a match out and struck on the striker.

No cigarettes to contribute, but I do have 2 matchbooks. I have both in put-together groupings to compliment a couple of US Navy hats I have. First up is a matchbook from the USS Tennessee. The flat cap is named to a sailor who spent his whole time in the navy aboard the Tenn. That isn't him in the photo. About a week after getting the hat, I found the unnamed photo at the flea market.

And here is a matchbook from the USS Boise. The hat is named to a sailor who spent his whole wartime service on board her.

 

And that is it for my military smoking related items.

Not a fan of cigarette smoke so no desire to collect them. But always interested in seeing what is out there. I don't recall Dad saying anything about cigarettes while he was in the army. I know he smoked a pipe back then. There is at least one photo of him smoking a pipe on Okinawa in 1945. Later when I was around he was a White Owl cigar man, with a pipe here and there and an occasional stinky old Italian stogie. Man, what a powerful ...ummm...errrr...aroma!

Looking through this thread to make sure I didn't already post my matchbooks, I see I mentioned Dad smoking a pipe in the Army. Here is a pic of him with his pipe on Okinawa while his unit was in the cleanup phase of the fighting.

Many years ago I used to specialise in WW2 rations and cigarettes, always kept files on any old photos that I came across in wartime publications........ this one shows the contents of a WW2 Red Cross POW parcel, cigarette packs top right corner.......

Really cool 43’ Lucky pack I recently picked up. Has a FRENCH message from FDR on the reverse side. Not in the greatest shape but cool pack nonetheless.

Pre-war 1939 Series 109 Lucky Strikes.  There is a faint red "Tax Paid" stamp on the outer surface of the cellophane.  I can only read part of it.  The lower part reads Tax Paid over 20 cigarettes 20.  Above the right side 20 is a star.  There is other printing obove the left side 20, but I can't make anything out.  Has anyone seen such a stamp on the outside of the cellophane?  Local taxing authority?

Here are a couple that I have...

 

Pall Mall has foil inner wrap and is a series 110... also shown with a micro 16 that would fit perfectly in an open pack.

I’m not sure about the Melachrino Egyptian cigarettes... any idea of time period?

 

Are the two small packs - Camels and Chesterfield - Vietnam era or just give-a-ways?

Nice packs. I haven’t been able to pinpoint the date in those smaller ration type packs. Hopefully one of the more experienced collectors can help.

Here’s a nice 45’ dated Beech Nut pack and paper label Lucky Strike with a 90 division label attached. Love the Lucky stuff.

It’s not every day that you get a pack of WW2 Cigarettes that you know who bought them when they were new, but I have one here to share.....this pack of green Lucky Strikes came from a PTO vet that I know, still around and just turned 101 years old recently..never opened the pack to smoke these...he is in a care facility now but used to attend the local church my wife and I and our in-laws attended.....they recently had an auction of items from the home and I saw these and had to pick them up.

Very nice.  I have a green pack with the tax stamp numbered 109=1939.  This one with number 112 means it is from 1942.

I've always been under the impression that the smaller "not for sale" packages were handed out for promotional reasons. So far I haven't ecountered these packages in rations.
