ArchangelDM Posted July 6, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 6, 2018 This beautiful Utility Cap (cover) as the Marines call it turned up in sunny England this morning and I couldnt be happier. After doing some research and always loving the style of these caps Im very happy to show this one to you all. This Cap features the classic Army Weave on a Marine Corps P42 camouflage. These where hand made in the Field and from what Ive read quite a rarity. Digging up some old threads some where made post war by an author in the Poncho material, so was very happy when this had actual Camouflage material. The colour of the Camouflage used is more yellow than the P44 and consistent with the early P1942 colour meaning this probably was theatre made early on before the official P1944 cover came into play. The inside has sweat and discoloration from some use. Here Ive matched up my P1944 and the camouflage utility Cap to show you how close they are with regards to stitching and build. Also Ive matched the hat with my named P42 and P44 to show difference in colour. Enjoy the pics Dean

KRIS FORD Posted July 6, 2018 Share #13 Posted July 6, 2018 Very cool!! I wonder how that pin back for the EGA felt against the noggin? Or It was worn wear it didn't touch the head, like high crowned and dipped on top in the center? (I know some old Marines who wear their covers like that still.) ArchangelDM Posted July 6, 2018 Author Share #15 Posted July 6, 2018 Very cool!! I wonder how that pin back for the EGA felt against the noggin? Or It was worn wear it didn't touch the head, like high crowned and dipped on top in the center? (I know some old Marines who wear their covers like that still.) Funny enough it fits my head and you cant even feel the screw back at all, the top sits almost a little forward like a chefs hat, high crowned and dipped at the centre with that sweet short brim. I actually really enjoy wearing it ! Thanks for the kind comments Dean

ArchangelDM Posted July 6, 2018 Author Share #21 Posted July 6, 2018 How? A fine question sir seeing as its original WW2 P42 army weave fabric, fake would mean that the fabric was incorrect/fake not WW2 era. Like I said Ill get my popcorn out
doyler Posted July 6, 2018 Share #22 Posted July 6, 2018 I recall there was a cap on ebay made from original material but appeared recent manufacture? Just saying we see a lot of Vietnam era caps and berets and boonies made from scrap or real material but are not original war time produced. There was a Marine vet from my state that had yards and yards of original camo material.Real material is out there

My opinion on it is that due to the fabric used on this one plus construction and the previous owner Im very happy with it Yours Dean
