C500 Posted July 10, 2018 Share #4 Posted July 10, 2018 I see the lock plate has a blued finish. Is that how they were originally finished?

warpath Posted July 11, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted July 11, 2018 I see the lock plate has a blued finish. Is that how they were originally finished? Trapdoor parts were blued and case colored. Ed
thorin6 Posted July 11, 2018 Share #8 Posted July 11, 2018 I believe you can look at this rifle in one of two ways, either it is a Model 1873 with 1879 modifications or it's a Model 1879 (as one author has called them). Either way it's a great looking rifle. I have one of it's brothers in much the same condition.

C500 Posted July 15, 2018 Share #10 Posted July 15, 2018 Gotcha I just found a carbine with the blued side plates but my other trapdoor are bright but both have a mix of case colors
lambo35 Posted July 15, 2018 Share #11 Posted July 15, 2018 Beautiful looking sling, Dated? Chuck
warpath Posted July 15, 2018 Author Share #12 Posted July 15, 2018 I am certain the sling isn't period and is not dated.
Collectible Posted July 15, 2018 Share #13 Posted July 15, 2018 Fine example you have there Ed. The fine case coloring on the receiver, fine bluing on the lock, and clear defined cartouche are all things you don't see very often anymore. I'm guessing the barrel of that Trapdoor is close to a mirror finish.
warpath Posted July 15, 2018 Author Share #14 Posted July 15, 2018 I have to say it is a pretty fine example...It will be tough to upgrade this one. Ed
