Red Devil Posted June 24, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 24, 2018 Hi Everyone, This might be a shot in the dark, but I was hoping someone could help possibly identify a squadron patch based on the outline of where it was once stitched. I recently acquired a Willis & Geiger M-422A jacket that is heavily worn, and on the chest are stitching holes from a patch. I don't know much about WWII/KW era USN/Marines jackets, but it seems like this is where a name tag could have been more commonly worn than another patch. The outline doesn't seem to match any WWII-era Navy patches I've seen in my research. Either way, any help or direction would be greatly appreciated! Red Devil Posted June 24, 2018 Author Share #2 Posted June 24, 2018 Here is the jacket itself. It's complete but worn. I cannot discern a USN mark under the collar because of the wear back there. The tag identifies the contract at NsX-290, which was a 1943 contract for W&G.

mohawkALSE Posted August 7, 2018 Share #5 Posted August 7, 2018 That would be the 336th Fighter Squadron "Rocketeers" The Rocket usually points the other direction like the stitching holes on the jacket.
Jeffro Posted August 9, 2018 Share #6 Posted August 9, 2018 Maybe a USN patch? How about VA-195? https://bluejacket.com/usn/insignia/av/va-vd/va195_cv17_1952_insig.jpg
Red Devil Posted August 9, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted August 9, 2018 Thank you all for the leads and input. I do indeed think it is a match for the 336th Fighter Squadron, with a patch found here. Interesting to have a potential USAF patch on a USN jacket though. I appreciate the feedback!
Jim MacDonald Posted August 11, 2018 Share #8 Posted August 11, 2018 I dunno. It looks like a diving bird to me. I think that still more research should be done with Navy & Marine squadrons. Mac
