Siamundo Posted June 24, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 24, 2018 One last unknown for tonight. It seems all the information I need to ID this patch is right there in front of me, but I cannot make all the pieces fit. Tiger Flight, Vietnam '65, Dawn Patrol, and what looks like it might be either a sky hook or tail hook at the bottom. Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. Siamundo Posted June 24, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted June 24, 2018 Thank you Salvage Sailor. The seller I bought this from did state that it came from the estate of a retired US Navy man. I asked him if he had any other information to offer but he replied that picked it up so long ago he could not remember any details related to the patch. firefighter Posted June 25, 2018 Share #7 Posted June 25, 2018 The following attack carries all had cruises in 1965 Constellation, Midway, Ranger, Kitty Hawk, Independence, Coral Sea, & Enterprise.
Siamundo Posted June 26, 2018 Author Share #8 Posted June 26, 2018 Thank you for the confirmation on the tail hook, Vintage Productions. Thank you firefighter for the list of carriers making cruises in 1965.That would be a lot of potential squadrons to choose from, just guessing each carrier maybe had 7-9 squadrons or detachments on board. How prevalent was the term 'flight' used with Navy Squadrons? Perhaps I have just never heard it used before. I always thought the Navy squadrons called their small contingents detachments. ocsfollowme Posted June 26, 2018 Share #9 Posted June 26, 2018 I am thinking you probably have about three attack squadrons per carrier....so about 21 to start narrowing it down ?
