644td Posted June 23, 2018 Share #1 Posted June 23, 2018 I got this helmet in today and would like to give a big thank you to Dean for putting me onto the helmet, and to Scott(bugme),Bob(Chap15) for the help and advice. The helmet has been seen before in the thread on Chaplain helmets and the helmet has been in Switzerland for a decade and is now back in the states. The helmet is named to Harold B Lawson who served as a Chaplain from Jan 1945-Feb 1971. Lawson served in the navy in ww2 and for most of his career served as a Post Chaplain, Asst Div Chaplain, Bn. chaplain and in Vietnam with USMILAsstComd. And 4 years as instructor at Ft. Slocum Chaplain school. Marty

644td Posted June 23, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted June 23, 2018 What is interesting and unusual about this helmet both Scott and Bob said is most Chaplain helmet of this era did not have rank and cross on the helmet. I have a WW2 Navy with Lt. Rank and I have seen a few more but they are WW2 helmet. I am glad to be the caretaker of this one. Marty

patches Posted June 23, 2018 Share #6 Posted June 23, 2018 That's the first time I seen this style of Lt Col Oak Leaf on an Army shirt, these are In Country Vietnam U.S.Air Force when they are outlined like that, would this be one of his MACV shirts? You my be correct on that assessment, he was in Vietnam in 66-67 and was USMILAsstComd(SD-5891) somebody else pointed out to me that is cool is the gap between the CH and the Col. On the back of the liner, The Lt. was removed. Marty
Bugme Posted June 25, 2018 Share #9 Posted June 25, 2018 That gap is what jumped out to me. A few seconds of time along with a razor blade and the updated rank adjustment was finished. Lol
644td Posted June 25, 2018 Author Share #10 Posted June 25, 2018 That gap is what jumped out to me. A few seconds of time along with a razor blade and the updated rank adjustment was finished. Lol Yea, Scott its the small things that can give validity to an item and the removal of the Lt. And having one of his Lt. Col. Items helps the grouping. I pray all is well on the mission field you are lifted up daily. Marty
