I have been researching for awhile, I can not find a picture of the 342nd Infantry Regiment unit crest. He was machine gunned outside of Bilstein, cutting the Ruhr Pocket in half. April 10th. It took 6 months to recover, sent back on a hospital ship, then guarded German POW's till he was discharged in 1946.His exact unit, 2nd Platoon, I company, 342nd Infantry Regiment, 86th Infantry Division. I have his discharge and service records and medals and would like to add the crest if possible....I noticed the grouping was wrong, I have since changed it, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct, American Theatre, European Theatre, Victory Medal. I also need a Marksman Badge with the Carbine Bar , his papers say he qualified on the carbine.

Thank you so much. Any idea who may have one for sale? Are modern repros being made?

You want one with either a scewback (threaded post, may or may not have nut) or a pinback - a single pointed metal piece that fits into a catch.

While the Div was reactivated approx 10 years ago, unk if any of the regiments were. If the DI has clutchbacks (small pointed ends) it is a modern day version. Additionally, all the symbols would be flat, not raised like the Y is on this DI.

Agree with tred, get yourself a period unit crest, you'll have to look around for a while (didn't see any offered on Ebay at this time), but it will turn up, perhaps you can put a Want Ad in the Wanted Forum.

You might want to check w/ seller kmcoll2 on Ebay, probably the largest DI dealer in the universe.
