Experimental Titanium helmets

Here are two unusual helmets that I have. The first is just an unfinished shell with TMCA Helmet #10 written inside. Based on Mark Reynosa's books, I am assuming this is Titanium Metals Corporation of America who were making trying to make helmets in the late 1960's. I think it is a type III since it weighs 32.8 ounces without chinstrap bales or paint, and the type III shell is listed at 39 ounces. The other helmet I think is a type IV, although it has a different style liner than the one from Bill Rizzuti's collection. It weighs only 25.4 ounces and the liner is attached directly to the metal shell. The chart in Reynosa's book says it should be 24 ounces, but maybe that is with a different style liner. There is a Bill Rizzuti helmet in Steel Pots that has a similar chinstrap, but with a chincup.

If these are really just common NATO helmets, I will be very disappointed, but please let me know think.gif
